There’s a lot to learn about a job from a description, but there’s even more to gain from seeing the work happen firsthand.
A few weeks ago, Mellott Recruiter Molly spent a day away from her usual routine and on the shop floor, job shadowing members of our Service Department. The experience gave her a closer look at the people, skills, and day-to-day work behind some of the positions she helps recruit for.
A Day Alongside Our Service Team
Molly spent much of the day shadowing one of our Service Technicians, Brandon. Throughout the day, she was able to see just how much ground a service technician can cover, from hands-on work in the shop to the regular communication and coordination that takes place with our warehouse staff.
For Molly, getting to see that work up close added another layer of understanding to the roles she talks about with candidates every day.
As she shared after the experience:

Seeing Technology in Action
Molly also spent some time with Maggie, who gave her a firsthand look at Mellott’s FARO Arm. She was able to watch as Maggie used the machine and its software on a current project, offering a glimpse into another side of the precision and technology involved in the work happening throughout our facility.
It was an opportunity to see not only the equipment in action, but also the knowledge and experience required to put that technology to work.

Job shadowing experiences like this help build connections between departments and give employees a better understanding of the work happening around them.
For Molly, spending the day in our Service Department provided insight she can take back to recruiting, helping her speak more firsthand about the skills, responsibilities, and opportunities that come with a career at Mellott.
