Mellott University Student of the Month: Gavin Reichelt

For November 2024, we’re proud to recognize Gavin Reichelt as Mellott University’s Student of the Month. A dedicated learner and a hardworking member of the Mellott team, Gavin’s passion for expanding his knowledge and refining his skills in welding has made him stand out as a student in our pre-apprenticeship program.

Gavin, a graduate of Faith Christian Academy and James Rumsey Technical Institute, comes to Mellott University with a strong foundation in welding, having completed a two-year welding program at James Rumsey. As a middle child with one older brother and one younger brother, Gavin is no stranger to the value of teamwork and collaboration—traits that will serve him well both in the classroom and on the job.

Gavin joined Mellott University to take his skills to the next level. “I wanted to absorb as much information as possible, like a sponge,” he said. His goal is to become a well-rounded professional and he’s on the right path. At Mellott University, he’s not only gaining hands-on experience, but he’s also developing the versatility needed to thrive in the aggregate industry.

One of the things Gavin enjoys most about his time at Mellott University is the people. “The students here are great. They’re always willing to lend a hand,” he said. “And my instructor, Dave Coleman, is an excellent teacher. He breaks everything down really well, and I feel like I’m learning so much.” The sense of camaraderie at Mellott University is clearly something Gavin values. It’s clear that his classmates think a lot of him, as they decided he should be the first student of the month this year due to his willingness to help everyone.

When he’s not at Mellott University, Gavin spends his free time enjoying the slopes at Whitetail Ski Resort, where he recently purchased a season pass. Snowboarding is one of his favorite pastimes. Before graduating, Gavin played lacrosse for Hedgesville High School. During his senior year, he and his team won the D2 State Championship, a highlight of his high school sports career.

Each day, Gavin starts his workday in Mellott’s Manufacturing Department, where he appreciates the mentorship of his colleagues. “The guys in Manufacturing are awesome,” he shared. “They’re always looking out for me, teaching me what they know, and making sure I’m safe while I work.”

With his strong work ethic, eagerness to learn, and positive attitude, Gavin Reichelt exemplifies the values we strive to instill in all Mellott University students. We’re excited to see what he accomplishes in the future and are proud to have him as part of our program.

Congratulations, Gavin! Keep up the great work!
